Rearengement, fun for students, useful for me

The aim of this section was to reflect about the implementation of the teaching unit I designed. You will find below a brief summary of the main ideas I included in the whole report, which you can read by clicking here.

The teaching unit I designed was for 4th graders and the topic that the teacher asked me to cover was clothes. She provided me with a list of vocabulary and grammar structures that she wanted kids to learn. I felt a little bit limited but I tried my best to work the situation out. I was also asked to implement it in the 3 lines the school has, which meant implementing in two groups that I hadn’t met before, but I accepted.

After Easter holidays I was supposed to start my intensive period at school and also my implementation, but the teacher had some activities to finish and I lost 2 sessions, so I had to readapt everything from my planning and implement it in only 6 sessions.

The structure of this report is based on the sessions I implemented, so you will find comments related to each session. At the end, you can find general comments about the whole implementation and experience.

So, as you’ve seen, I had to reduce my implementation to 6 sessions, instead of 8. What I did was getting rid of the session 7 I had planned, as it was related to a grammar content that was not in the teachers’ planning (the description of what someone is wearing), and asking the students to fill in the rubrics at home, which was supposed to be done in the last session (number 8). Then, I could do everything else in the 6 sessions I had.

In general, I would highlight as positive and negative points of the whole implementation the following ones:
